Spoons Which one should I choose?
The spoons are metallic lures that have a waving or spinning action emitting shines and vibrations to attract trout and other fish such as pike or salmon.
- TYPES
- Undulating: they are formed by a blade that provides the weight and produces a movement when retrieved. They usually have medium and large sizes and are very effective with trout as well as with salmon or pike. They are usually the heaviest and largest, making them perfect for larger predators. They have a rotating shaft at the end and a treble hook with possible feathers at the back. They offer a great cast and are very good against wind.
- Swivels: they are the most common and valid for smaller fish. They have a much smoother operation than the wigglers and have three different parts:
- Body: it is the one that gives the spoon its own weight and will allow us to make the different casts. There are very heavy solid bodies (Ranger, Sar, lead blocks, etc.) and also lighter options (Meps, Vibrax or Celta). It should be taken into account when choosing it that the heavier the spoon, the longer the casts will be.
- Paddle: depending on its shape, we will obtain one action or another:
- Narrow blade: for faster retrieves both in calm waters and against the current or diagonally.
- Wide blade: ideal for slower retrieves and slow speed work such as upstream.
- Hooks: They are usually trebles although sometimes we will need to cut it in case of going to a salmon preserve. Para we can cut it and change it for another ring.
- SIZE
We should not opt for spoons that are too small, as they will be difficult to hold both in the action and when hooking. - COLORS
- Silver: perfect for spring since we can use a plus of sparkles. They are also ideal for cloudy days or places where the sun hardly reaches. These are the classic teaspoons with blue or red polka dots.
- Gold: for sunny days in places with lots of vegetation. They have minor sparkles and also have small blue and red dots.
- Copper: the most versatile, perfect for days that alternate sun and shade and especially if we are going to fish in rocky or sandy bottoms.
- Fantasy: designed for fishing pike, blackbass or salmonids in reservoirs or areas with great depth. They have bright and varied colors and you can also add vinyls or complements.
